Protests

On Monday evening June 29th, singer and activist Hachalu Hundessa (34 years old) was killed in the capital of Ethiopia: Addis Abeba. Protests broke out in the country on tuesday; roads are blocked and the internet is locked down.

Hachalu Hundessa was known for his political songs. A voice for the rights of the Oromo-ethnic group in Ethiopia, the largest ethnic group in the country. Millions of fans supported his music, in which he expressed the collective longing for change with revolutionary lyrics.

The three Marginpar farms in Ethiopia mainly grow Eryngium and Astrantia. In addition, Crocosmia and Ornithogalum grow there.

Due to the political unrest, these flowers cannot be shipped to the Netherlands.

Thanks to the production on the other farms in Kenya, Tanzania and Zimbabwe, the supply of Astrantia and Ornithogalum can continue as usual.

An exception is the Astrantia Billion Star®, which is largely grown in Ethiopia.

It is unclear when the situation will improve, but we are keeping a close eye on it.
