A new chapter for Bloemenservice Nederland
Bloemenservice Nederland (BSN) celebrated its official reopening in March, joined by a wonderful mix of industry partners, including wedding planners, photographers, venue managers and growers such as Marginpar and Lugt Lisianthus. The renowned wedding floristry company is now in the capable hands of floral designer Tiffany van Lenten and her specialised team.
Tiffany van Lenten is a Floral Fundamentals ambassador and has travelled the world to work on prestigious projects and teach live demonstrations, taking the stage at international events such as the World Cup Floral Art and the Singapore Garden Festival. Annemarie Hoekstra founded Bloemenservice Nederland when she was 20 years old and built the company into what it is today: a trusted and much-loved name in the wedding industry. During the opening celebrations, Annemarie spoke warmly about Tiffany, expressing her full confidence in her successor and wishing her every success for the future. Annemarie is now fully focusing on her other thriving business, Kerstboomservice Nederland.
A dream wedding on a historic estate
Last year, Bloemenservice Nederland created the florals for an elaborate wedding at Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg. We visited Annemarie in the floral studio, where she and her team were busy working on the final pieces. It was the middle of a heatwave, a perfect reminder of just how flexible and well-prepared a wedding florist needs to be.
We are proud to share that Marginpar flowers were part of this stunning wedding too, including Clematis Amazing® Kansas, Clematis Amazing® Rome, Talinum ‘Long John’, Sanguisorba Red Dream®, Limonium Safora Lilac, Scabiosa Dark Cherry Scoop®, Delphinium Bella Andes Azure, Delphinium Bella Andes White, Polianthes Elle Pink and Pennisetum Black Fox.
”The real story is often found in the details: a look, a memory, or in this case, two very special chairs.
The story behind the design
We had the opportunity to ask Annemarie about wedding consultations, inspiration, challenging weather conditions and her favourite design elements. Enjoy the interview!
How do you find out what the couple truly wants?
During the consultation, it is all about listening carefully and asking the right follow-up questions. The real story is often found in the details: a look, a memory, or, in this case, two very special chairs. These ceremony chairs are an important family piece for the couple, with a striking print. They formed both the literal and figurative foundation of the design. The couple also made it very clear that they wanted something truly different from the usual. They wanted to surprise, stand out, and at the same time enhance the venue. That is exactly what we built the design around.
How would you describe the style of this wedding?
The style can best be described as ‘boldly romantic, with character’. The venue, Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg, played a huge role in shaping the overall look. We wanted the floral work to blend seamlessly with the surroundings, not as decoration on its own, but as an extension of what the location already radiates. The print on the chairs was the visual starting point, the couple’s wish to surprise gave us direction, and the venue brought everything to life.
What were your favourite varieties for this wedding?
We love working with the Marginpar assortment. Many of your flowers are refined; not large statement flowers such as hydrangeas or roses, but flowers that elevate a design through their structure, colour or shape. The biggest surprise for me was the Talinum, a flower I had not worked with before. By using it in small groups, it created an almost dreamy, magical atmosphere. That subtle movement and airiness gave the arrangements a truly unique touch.
How do you make sure the flowers look their best for such a large event?
Timing is key. We plan our purchasing and preparations so that the flowers are open at just the right moment. We take transport, installation time and the weather forecast into account. It requires close coordination with our growers and stylists, as well as a great deal of experience in understanding how quickly flowers develop under different circumstances.
Do you have any tips for florists on dealing with challenging weather conditions?
Weather conditions are a major factor, especially at outdoor venues. My most important tip is to work in layers. For example, create a base using strong, long-lasting flowers, and add the more delicate varieties at the very last moment. Also make sure there is shade, protection from the wind, and always bring extra materials. Flexibility and preparation make all the difference.
For this wedding, we really did have an extreme case in terms of weather conditions. On the Friday and Saturday, temperatures reached as high as 30 degrees, and the ceremony was in full sun. That meant we had to work incredibly hard, bring plenty of floral spray as a kind of “sun cream for flowers”, and keep some of the ceremony pieces indoors, as everything from outside had to be moved to the dinner setting later on. We knew in advance that these pieces would take a serious hit, and that it would be all hands on deck to replace flowers as quickly as possible after the ceremony.
What was your favourite part of the floral work for this wedding?
What I enjoyed most was the challenge of staying true to the couple’s story and translating that into the floral work in a creative way. The combination of the chairs, the venue and their wish for something unexpected made the whole process unique for me.
The pavilion, with its bold shape and soft, moving flowers, has probably become my favourite element. And when the guests and the couple walk into the dinner space and are completely amazed, that is what makes the work of me and my team so special. We secretly take a little peek around the corner when that moment happens, because ultimately, that is what you do it all for.
We hope you enjoyed this wedding deep dive by Bloemenservice Nederland!
The team created an impressive collection of floral designs, each one filled with thoughtful details and character. The palette of blue, red and soft pink tones created a bold yet romantic atmosphere that perfectly complemented the historic estate.
